When Does Botulinum Toxin Start Working?

The effect of botulinum toxin is not complete immediately after treatment. Changes in muscle activity develop over time, and both onset and the appropriate time for final assessment can vary between individuals.

When does the effect begin?

Initial changes may become noticeable within the first several days. Treatment area, muscle strength, dose and individual biological response can influence timing, and different muscle groups may respond at different rates.

When should the result be assessed?

Muscle activity may not be fully balanced early on. Follow-up and any need for adjustment should therefore be considered at an appropriate review time rather than making premature additions before the effect has developed.

Can temporary asymmetry occur?

Different onset between muscle groups can temporarily create an impression of asymmetry. A marked or concerning change should be discussed with the treating physician.

Does duration vary?

Yes. Muscle activity, treatment area, dose, biological differences and prior treatment history can affect duration, so the same duration cannot be guaranteed for everyone.

Natural-looking planning

Muscle strength, eyebrow position, facial asymmetry and expression patterns are assessed together. See botulinum toxin in Bursa and aftercare information.
